Anniversary

Today is my parents wedding anniversary.  They were married 35 years ago today.  Can you believe people stay married that long?
It is amazing how in love they still are.  I remember one day talking with my mom and dad and them joking around and laughing.  I looked up at my mom and all the sudden I saw the happiest look across her face and she looked like she was 18 again.  It occurred to me that when they see each other, they still see the young people they were when they first fell in love.
You see, they were in high school when they met.  My mom was gorgeous and shy and my dad was the star athlete.  It was in California.  My dad was LDS and my mom wasn't.  They were being seated in class alphabetically.  Her last name was Maynerd and my dad's McEvoy.  After the teacher placed them next to each other he said they looked like a good match.  They eventually started dating, my mom eventually started going to church and when she was ready my dad baptized her.  Now she didn't wait for him on his mission.  In fact before he came home she left on hers.  When my dad came home he headed off to BYU and he dated others... So many that he was given the "A Jax" award.  What is that, you may ask?  I guess he worked fast and never left a ring, just like A Jax.  Hard to imagine my dad as the "Big Guy" on campus.  When my mom came home she let him know she was looking to start the next step in her life which was marriage.  She dated other guys and even had a few proposals but they never felt right.  My dad came home from school for Thanksgiving and they went out again.  He asked her to be the mother of his children... kinda cheese by todays standards but my mom said yes.  Funny side story, after Thanksgiving break my dad went back to school to finish up the semester.  My mom saw his mom around town and asked her if she were excited about the wedding. She stood staring at my mom.  My dad hadn't told his family yet.  We tease my dad about him having bad intentions when he asked her to be the mother of his children.
Thing is they are still so in love, even more really.  They have had such a great marriage and have shown me how great life can be as an eternal family.  One great thing about them is they are partners, working side by side.  They are in many ways opposite but when they work together ones weakness is the others strength and they can be equally yoked.
Is it any wonder that I wanted to get married so badly?  Is it any wonder that I needed to marry someone just like my dad, I am so much like my mom.  I think I've done pretty well for myself and I am blessed that my parents agree.
