Christmas Crafts

Ok so I craft all year round but I am usually so busy making presents this time of year that I never get around to making my Christmas crafts.  This year I decided I would do them in July.  Well that didn't happen.  But I did start them around Thanksgiving and I have the two things that I've been meaning to do for years done and then some.
  Walla!

Here is the tree skirt that I've been wanting since Mark and I got married.  I've been looking for one that looks like this but haven't ever found one.  I knew I could make it but never had the time.  So when my friend Kelsey said she wanted to make one this year that was all the motivation I needed.  We set out to make ourselves one and once I got started I couldn't stop till it was done.  There's always the nervousness that goes on while you make something, "What if I spend all this time and effort on this and I hate it?"  Right when I started sewing it together (I questioned it the whole way through making the pattern up and cutting) the questioning was gone.  I don't always love my final projects, this one I do.  SOOO happy with it.

Two of these Stockings are not like the other.  Can you guess which?  If you guessed both of the green ones you would be right.  I made the olive green one on the right.  I bought the first three for Mark and Eddie and I about two years ago.  I looked every where for one for Scott last year but couldn't find one that matched well enough.  So this year I decided to go for it.  I got five minutes into the planning before I realized that I cut way too big of a project out.  I told myself that it was just the cutting that would be bad.  After the cutting it would get easier.  The snow flakes have all these tiny little holes and diamonds cut out, I didn't even get them all.  Well half the day behind me I start the sewing the snow flakes on process.  Then I realize that the cutting was the easy part compared to the sewing.  I finished that around 9:00 pm (granted I had to go to the store for more thread and make dinner for my family during that time but still).  Then putting everything together went sailing by and I was finished around 10:00.  While making it I was cursing myself for getting myself into such a stupid mess.  Now I can sit back (very far back so I don't notice all the imperfections) and enjoy.  They match close enough and I am satisfied.

I finally got me a count down.  Now I have to get in the habit of updating it every day.  Not as fun as the ones with candy but I think it's cuter.

I had to through one in of our tree.  Missing the cream colored balls right now but they are breakable and I wanted to teach Scott not to touch the tree before I put them on.  I love this time of year.
Merry Christmas!
